Click to see our <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2019\/2019-03.html\">comics sales estimates for March 2019<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/201903Detective1000-3.jpg\" alt=\"See eBay listings for this issue\" width=\"206\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"1600\" data-original-width=\"1033\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<p>North American retailers ordered nearly 527,000 copies of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/sch\/Modern-Age-1992-Now\/900\/i.html?_from=R40&amp;_nkw=Detective+Comics+1000+2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><b style=\"font-style: italic;\">Detective<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><i style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Comics <\/i><b>#1000<\/b><\/a>\u00a0in March, surpassing <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/sch\/Modern-Age-1992-Now\/900\/i.html?_from=R40&amp;_nkw=Action+Comics+1000+2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><i>Action Comics<\/i> #1000<\/a><\/b>&#8216;s figure from April 2018 \u2014 despite the fact that the <i>Detective<\/i> issue cost $2 more.<\/p>\n<p>The issue easily became\u00a02019&#8217;s bestselling comic so far,\u00a0according to\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2019.html\">our running totals<\/a><\/b>. It immediately placed fifth on the list of <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comichron.com\/vitalstatistics\/topcomics2000s.html\">top-selling comics of the century<\/a><\/b>, before any reorders had been included; it will likely go higher. Orders for the comic book and its many variants were worth more than $5.25 million dollars; the supporting hardcover, <b><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shareasale.com\/m-pr.cfm?merchantID=8908&amp;userID=296154&amp;productID=880220955&amp;afftrack=BL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman<\/a><\/i><\/b>, kicked in more than a quarter million dollars with its nearly 9,000 copies sold.<\/p>\n<p>Such colossal unit sales for a $9.99 comic book drove the average price of comics drove the average weighted cost of comic books in the Top 300 \u2014 that is, total dollars divided by total units \u2014 to a record far surpassing the old one: $4.67. The average comic book in the Top 300 also set a new cover-price record (by one cent), $4.20. The median and most common cover price for comics remains at $3.99. March marked a full year since the weighted average had been below $4. With its <b><i>Captain Marvel <\/i><\/b>movie in release in March, Marvel&#8217;s bestseller from January, <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/sch\/Modern-Age-1992-Now\/900\/i.html?_from=R40&amp;_nkw=Captain+Marvel+1+2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><i>Captain Marvel<\/i> #1<\/a><\/b>, saw a second consecutive month with more than 10,000 copies reordered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Avengers: Endgame setting box office records this past weekend, we also got news of a blockbuster comic book&#8217;s sales in the comics shop market \u2014 as well as a couple of dubious records when it comes to pricing.
