I now have the information from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/titlespotlights\/superman.html\"><b>every single circulation form with sales data ever published in the main Superman title<\/b><\/a>; I had been missing a few of the details when I first posted this material four years ago here, but now it is all online. (I&#8217;ve got everything for <i>Action<\/i>, too \u2014 that post is coming soon.)<\/p>\n<p>Sales data begins in <i>Superman<\/i> in 1960 and runs until DC stopped publishing postal statements in 1987. By that time, the series had transformed into <span style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\">Adventures of Superman<\/span>;<br \/>\nit may appear to be information for two titles, but as far as the<br \/>\nPostal Service regulations were concerned, it&#8217;s all one series. (It later changed back to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Superman <\/span>with #650.)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/SupermanCC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397038619068889730\" style=\"float: left; height: 304px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/AdventuresofSuperman424-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/>Superman, we see in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/yearlycomicssales.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">yearly tables<\/span><\/a>,<br \/>\nwas the #1 title for several years in the 1960s \u2014 and probably in<br \/>\n1963-64 as well, years in which DC published Statements with no sales<br \/>\nfigures.<\/p>\n<p>While the Statement of Ownership period at DC is only a chunk<br \/>\nof the title&#8217;s long history, I include a little bit about estimated<br \/>\nsales before 1960 and after 1987. Everything from 1996 to present\u00a0 can be found<br \/>\nin the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">monthly sales charts<\/span><\/a> here on site; that gives us about 44 years of data.<\/p>\n<p>The main title alone has had total all-time sales in the nine figures, just in North America.<\/p>\n<p>I also have a post from a few years ago getting into <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.comichron.com\/2010\/02\/million-dollar-action-1-copy-was-once.html\"><b>how many copies of <i>Action<\/i> #1 were initially printed and sold.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is being celebrated as the 75th anniversary of Superman&#8217;s first appearance, so I thought I would update one of the resources on the site.
