{"id":5003,"date":"2012-12-10T19:30:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T19:30:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-08-01T15:48:51","modified_gmt":"2020-08-01T20:48:51","slug":"full-november-2012-comics-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/10\/full-november-2012-comics-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Full November 2012 comics sales estimates online; Pony stomps Godzilla"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/AllNewXMen1-2.jpg\" width=\"209\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The full tables reporting the orders of comics shops in North America were released this morning by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diamondcomics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Diamond Comic Distributors<\/b><\/a>, and as reported <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.comichron.com\/2012\/12\/november-2012-comics-sales-steady-as.html\"><b>here<\/b><\/a> on Friday, they depict a market that is maintaining most of its momentum heading into the end of the year. With the &#8220;Marvel Now&#8221; releases \u2014 led by <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/ANXM1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><i>All-New X-Men<\/i> #1<\/b><\/a> \u2014 periodical orders were slightly up against a month that had one more shipping week last year. Click to see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2012\/2012-11.html\"><b>full comics sales estimates for November 2012.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every issue in the Top 10 had orders over 100,000 copies. (Over 110,000, actually.) This appears to be the first time there have been ten comic books with orders in six-digits since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2007\/2007-07.html\"><b>July 2007<\/b><\/a>. The DC relaunch topped out with eight. There were only 19 issues in all of 2010 that beat 100,000 in their first month, so this is a meaningful change.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned in the preliminary Comichron report, Marvel&#8217;s eight titles in the Top 10 is its best showing since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2009\/2009-02.html\"><b>February 2009<\/b><\/a>, the first reorder month for the Obama Spider-Man issue. Marvel has taken the top slot <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/vitalstatistics\/topcomics.html\"><b>eight of the last nine months<\/b><\/a>, excepting only the month that <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/WD100A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><i>Walking Dead<\/i> #100<\/b><\/a> came out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/sep120300e-2.jpg\" width=\"131\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<b>IDW<\/b> appears to gotten had its best showing ever for a single issue on the Diamond chart, with <b> <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/MLPony1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic <\/i>#1<\/a><\/b>, placing 15th.<br \/>\nIt also appears to be the highest rank for a non-Marvel-DC-Image issue on the charts since <i><b>Buffy: The Vampire Slayer<\/b><\/i> last reached 14th place in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2009\/2009-05.html\"><b>May 2009<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At a glance through the past tables, IDW&#8217;s previous best had been set by <b><i>Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters<\/i> #1<\/b> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2011\/2011-03.html\"><b>March 2011<\/b><\/a>, at 16th place \u2014 but in a sign of how the market has improved since then, <i>My Little Pony<\/i> had orders more than 80,000 copies, versus nearly 59,000 for <i>Godzilla<\/i>. Led by <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/WalkD17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><b>Walking Dead Vol. 17: Something to Fear<\/b><\/i><\/a>,<br \/>\nDiamond&#8217;s Top 300 graphic novel, hardcover and trade paperback<br \/>\ncollections had orders topping $7 million in November \u2014 off just 1%<br \/>\nversus last November. But Diamond&#8217;s overall sales for the category were<br \/>\ndown nearly 11%.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/AVXHC-2.jpg\" width=\"141\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/>We&#8217;ve<br \/>\nseen this all year. The &#8220;Top 300 alone&#8221; for the year in book sales is<br \/>\nup 22% \u2014 whereas for everything, it&#8217;s only up 15%. When there are<br \/>\nhigher-profile big-ticket items, such as this month&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/AVXhardcover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><i>Avengers Vs. X-Men<\/i> hardcover<\/b><\/a>, priced at $75, or the New 52 hardcovers, that tends to make the list topheavy.<\/p>\n<p>The average comic book in the Top 300 cost $3.54, with the average comic<br \/>\nbook ordered by retailers costing $3.56. The average comic book in the Top 25 cost $3.67. $3.50 was the median price of comics, and $2.99 was the most<br \/>\ncommon price.
