Haley<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p>Following the report on comics orders for <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.comichron.com\/2010\/03\/february-2010-comics-orders-show-little.html\"><b>February 2010<\/b><\/a>, here&#8217;s a look back at what was going on in previous years&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2008\/2008-12.html\">\u00a0<\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold;\">February 2009<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8216;s top seller was once again Marvel&#8217;s <i><b>Amazing Spider-Man #583<\/b><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, the top seller for 2009 with estimated Diamond year-end orders of <\/span>530,500 copies. <span style=\"font-size: small;\">Sales for the issue were estimated at <\/span>148,778 copies for the month.<span style=\"font-size: small;\"> Check out the detailed analysis of the month&#8217;s sales <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.comichron.com\/2009\/03\/february-2009-comics-sales-hanging-in.html\">here<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u2014 and sales chart <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2009\/2009-02.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold;\">February 2005<\/span>&#8216;s top-seller was Marvel&#8217;s <b><i>New Avengers #3 <\/i><\/b>with Diamond first-month orders of approximately 149,000 copies. This marked the third consecutive month that <i>New Avengers<\/i> was at the top of the rankings. Check out the sales chart <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2005\/2005-02.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold;\">February 2000<\/span>&#8216;s top-seller was <i><b>Uncanny X-Men #379<\/b><\/i>, with estimated Diamond orders of more than 108,400 copies. Marvel&#8217;s <b><i>Punisher<\/i><\/b> relaunch proved one of the better sellers in what was, overall, a down month near the very bottom of the industry&#8217;s post-1993 recession. Check out the sales chart <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2000\/2000-02.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/199502AmazingXMen2-1.jpg\" width=\"132\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p><b style=\"color: red;\">February 1995<\/b>&#8216;s top seller at Diamond and at Capital City Distribution was Marvel&#8217;s <i><b>Amazing X-Men<\/b><\/i> <b>#2<\/b>, continuing the &#8220;Age of Apocalypse&#8221; storyline. Capital reported preorders of 89,775 copies. The parent title&#8217;s Statement of Ownership reports monthly sales averaging at 332,889 copies; this one issue was likely higher.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/199002LegendsoftheDarkKnight6-1.jpg\" width=\"130\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><span style=\"color: red; font-weight: bold;\">February 1990<\/span>&#8216;s top seller at Diamond and Capital City was <span style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\">Legends of the Dark Knight #6,<\/span> beginning <b>Grant Morrison<\/b>&#8216;s &#8220;Gothic&#8221; storyline. Capital&#8217;s orders on the issue were 106,650 copies; overall, sales were likely in the 400,000- to 500,000-copy range. The novelty &#8220;compuer-generated&#8221; graphic novel <i><b>Batman: Digital Justice<\/b><\/i> was the top-selling trade at Capital City, with orders of 32,500 copies.<\/p>\n<p>Capital City reported sales for 308 comic books and 35 trade paperbacks in the month. The average cover price for new comics was $2.04, and the average comic book actually ordered cost $1.54. All told, Capital reported selling 2.85 million comic books for $4.38 million. Trade sales totaled $1.17 million, mostly copies of<i> Digital Justice<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><b style=\"color: red;\">February 1985<\/b>&#8216;s top seller at Capital City was <b><i>Uncanny X-Men<\/i> #194<\/b>, which sold about 6% more copies at Capital City than the slightly more expensive <i><b>Crisis on Infinite Earths <\/b><\/i><b>#3<\/b>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by John Jackson Miller and T.M.
