There&#8217;s a reference for that now \u2014 as the Comichron &#8220;book of records,&#8221; long-delayed, is finally beginning on site, with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/vitalstatistics\/diamondrecords.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Diamond Era Records page<\/span><\/a> now online. Covering April 1997 to present, it&#8217;s a first step \u2014 and it includes, beyond high-and-low-selling issues and months, info on highest average prices and market share peaks for the major companies.<\/p>\n<p>We find that the Obama <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Amazing Spider-Man<\/span> issue, which does indeed look to land around the 353,000-copy direct sales mark, looks to be the best-seller since December 1997, and Image&#8217;s <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Darkness<\/span> #11<\/span>, which had preorders of 357,000 copies across 11 covers. Missed it by <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">that<\/span> much!<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, this is a page which will grow and be amended over time. There is also an all-time page in the works. And follow the caveats on the page; the records here are derived from estimates using the Diamond data, and thus include nothing else, like a comic&#8217;s sales on the newsstand. Both <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Pok\u00e9mon<\/span> #1 <\/span>and <span style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\">Ultimate Spider-Man<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">#1<\/span> had significant external sales, for example \u2014 and we have no way of adding for sure what the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.comichron.com\/2009\/02\/obama-spidey-and-newsstand.html\">Obama Spidey&#8217;s newsstand sales<\/a> <\/span>were as of yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What&#8217;s the best-selling comic book in the last dozen years?
