(The market shares listed<br \/>\nhere on the site and on Newsarama appear to be the correct ones.)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;verdana&quot;;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: &quot;verdana&quot;;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2007\/2007-05.html\"><strong>Last May<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n was a monster, so the comparatives were going to be hard to hit; there<br \/>\nwas also one less shipping week this May. In any event, orders were off<br \/>\nin all categories against a year ago and all year-to-date categories are<br \/>\n now off \u2014 though the widest category, overall comics, trade paperback,<br \/>\nand magazine orders, is only off 2% year-to-date. <br \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;verdana&quot;;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2007\/2007-06.html\"><strong>June 2007<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n was a much slower month than May 2007, so we\u2019ll see how the<br \/>\ncomparatives work next time. It&#8217;s beginning to look a bit like 2003, a<br \/>\nyear when the market seemed to have been catching its breath after a<br \/>\nperiod of stronger growth; we won&#8217;t know whether that&#8217;s true for a few<br \/>\nmonths, I shouldn&#8217;t think. Having observed this market through colossal<br \/>\nhighs and extreme lows, I always find it&#8217;s helpful to get a good number<br \/>\nof data points before drawing many conclusions. <br \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;verdana&quot;;\">With Diamond trade paperback indexed<br \/>\nreporting stretching back to early 1998, we can now also do ten-year<br \/>\ncomparisons. To preserve apples-to-apples, I only compare the number of<br \/>\ntitles Diamond had on its list in each year; the top 50 in 2003, the top<br \/>\n 25 in 1998.
