{"id":5960,"date":"2008-05-19T23:06:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-19T23:06:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-07-28T03:09:02","modified_gmt":"2020-07-28T03:09:02","slug":"april-2008-comics-sales-estimates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/19\/april-2008-comics-sales-estimates\/","title":{"rendered":"April 2008 comics sales estimates: Market up slightly overall"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: small; font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">by John Jackson Miller<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p>\n<b>Diamond  Comic Distributors<\/b> released its sales rankings today, and unusually I  was able to attend to the math right away and generate the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2008\/2008-04.html\"><strong>estimates for April 2008<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/comichron.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/200804SecretInvasion1-1.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Overall, the comics industry fared better against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comichron.com\/monthlycomicssales\/2007\/2007-04.html\"><strong>last April<\/strong><\/a>  \u2014 but only overall. Comparatives in the narrower categories remain  slightly down, even considering this April had five ship weeks (versus  four last year). But the backlist strength bumped the overall category  up 6% this month \u2014 with the year-to-date now ahead by nearly $1 million,  or 1%.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: small;\"><span id=\"dnn_ctr990_MainView_ViewBlog_lstBlogView_ctl00_lblDescription\"> <\/p>\n<p>Look for my <strong>Newsarama column<\/strong> with in-depth historical analysis coming soon.
