I’m busy traveling to San Diego — click to see my Comicon panel and signing schedule — and so I’m out of position when it comes to reporting the June 2011, second quarter 2011, and first half of 2011 sales. But the raw files are online at Diamond Comic Distributors, which reports that the slide in new comics sales seen earlier this year moderated somewhat.

The final Ultimate Spider-Man issue, #160, topped the Top 300 comics charts; Diamond’s raw figures can be found here. I am reluctant to attempt too much analysis outside the office and away from my trusty calculator, but it looks like the book did close to 160,000 copies. (That’d be three times what the first issue sold in its initial preorder month in September 2000, although that issue ultimately — no pun intended — sold many, many copies in reorder and reprint form.) We’d be looking at just over 6 million copies in the Top 300 for more than $20.6 million if my estimate is on target; and I note that the depth of the charts is pretty good, with the 300th place book well into the 4000s, unit-wise.
Walking Dead Vol. 14
released this June and was the top seller in the trades charts, with more than 20,000 copies ordered. The overall Top 300 would be somewhere around $6.5 million.
