The end-of-year comics sales figures will be out in the next few weeks, as well as the December sales reports, and as mentioned here before, 2012 looks to have been an outstanding year, with major gains for comics in both the print direct market and digital space. I’ll begin analyzing the figures as soon as they’re released, with reports hopefully to come soon afterward.
Another data point suggesting the interest in comics can be observed now, however: visits to Comichron increased nearly 50% in 2012, and the yearly total is double what it was in 2010. More than a million pages of sales charts have been served just since the DC relaunch was announced. I’m gratified by the interest in the research, and even more pleased that comics — which at the end of the 1990s seemed on the knife’s edge as a commercial medium — are finding a larger, and, one would hope, more permanent place in the global consciousness.
